This summer New Moon is proud to offer fruit from our Helsing Junction CSA fruit share. Info on all the Helsing Junction Farms goodness here. Look out for specials all summer that feature their yummy seasonal fruit and our beautiful bouquets from their farm as well.
Anyone coming by the cafe will see a series of photos posted in our window. With Pride month in mind and in the wake of the shooting in Orlando we make a small gesture to honor queer individuals that have and continue to inspire us. These are faces of determination and courage; they are faces of wit, creativity, and defiance. They're both casual and bright. Our photos are just a small way to engage with a rich queer history and make visible those we cherish.
This week marks 1 year since we collectively bought New Moon and turned it into a worker-owned cooperative cafe! We've come really far in one year; buying an established restaurant helped this project immensely, but our amazing collective of people have sat through multiple meetings each and every week, written proposal after proposal, developed policy after policy, cross-trained & gained skills we'd never thought we'd need, worked hard 7 days a week, constantly questioned & pushed ourselves, and most evidently have supported one another in our commitment to this incredible project that has changed our lives in so many different ways. It's been a lot of challenging work. Thanks for all your support and love. Come in and say hey. We love Olympia.
Queer Rock Camp, an organization very close to our hearts, is hosting a fancy schmancy benefit dinner at New Moon on April 27th with special guest chef Miranda Krone from Seattle. This collectively-run, week-long summer camp does amazing work for L.G.B.T.Q.Q.I.A. youth and deserves our support. RSVP for this very special dinner soon.
"Empowering youth and building community through music. We support the fluidity of gender and sexuality, and see music as a way to amplify resilience and self-expression."
The cafe has been painted! After we closed yesterday, most of us got to work priming the walls of the front of house. We spent the evening and all of the next day (one of two days we've ever been closed!) beautifying the walls of our little place. A lot of hard work was spent and everyone did an amazing job. Come in, enjoy the brightness and some breakfast. We'll get some art up soon over these walls but until then, we're enjoying the fresh atmosphere!
